Port Ludlow, August 28 - 29, 1999by Ann Erickson It's great to pull up to a dock and have people you know there to give you a hand. People who are glad to see you, it really feels good. Port Ludlow has a loooong end dock where we had space reserved for the weekend and we owned the place. It was too cool. However the rain finally caught up with us. Saturday was ok, but Sunday the rain gods did a cha cha on our parade. The line started with Bill Dean and family and friend Brian on Searunner 40, Seafire, then came Bob Whistler and friend George Martin on F-24 Mk II, Slingshot, David and Julia Miller on F-27, Drum, Wayne and Ann Erickson on F-27, Almond Joy, and Harry and Mary Abbott on F- 25A, Folding Fangle. On an inside dock were Tom and Diane Preston (who have their F-27 Diatom for sale) in their brand new Nordic Tug, Andante and anchored out was Bob Lomax, on his Searunner 3l, Flying So Low,. He is just back from a solo passage to Mexico, Hawaii, and home again and, boy, did he have some stories to tell. In the dark of night Saturday George and Loretto Lefler arrived on their Gemini 105, Stardancer. It was great to see them. George is the man responsible for planning these outings and he had serious engine troubles this summer and couldn't get to them himself. Ken Bechman keeps his luscious Catans 41 at Pt. Ludlow. He came on Saturday, but went home and John Hall and his family stayed on the boat. Ken returned Sunday and brought his wife along too. lngvar and Ebbs Endarmo arrived in their land yacht and joined us for dinner and breakfast. As did Dell Jacobs, Greg Jacobs, dad. He actually lives in a real house in this beautiful place. He showed off his F-9A to all the guys too. Greg pooped out and didn't show, letting a little rain discourage him. Part of the deal at Pt. Ludow Marina is that you get to use their nice covered picnic area and gas barbecue. There was chicken, salmon, steaks and dogs cooking all at once. There were salads, fruit, past.4s,,end desserts. We should open a restaurant. Sunday morning we all trooped up to the restaurant and had a civilized breakfast in the warm and dry. It was Loretta Lefler's birthday and George provided champagne for everyone. What a nice way to end the summer. Generally speaking these events were hugely successful and enjoyed by all. The food was fabulous and Golden Fork awards should be presented to all comers! |
