Blake Island, July 3 - 4, 1999by Ann Erickson After a terribly rainy week, the weather improved with just a couple of showers Saturday, one on Sunday and glorious sun all day Monday. Saturday Mark Olsoe and friend Diane arrived in Mark's Two-Canoe multihull equipped to camp for the weekend. They were followed by Steve Powell in his 3 Meter, Alpha 1, carrying camping gear and powered by an outboard of all things. Steve is not a gambler. He wasn't going to rely on anything as fickle as the wind to get him there. He had a tiny 1 1/2 horse Evenrude bolted on his boat. Worked like a charm too. Wayne and Ann arrived in Almond Joy just in time for dinner. This weekend was scheduled for Sat. and Sun. but since most people had Monday off for the holiday, it lasted and extra day, and turned into a two potluck weekend. Additional arrivals on Sunday were Will and Judy Marken and daughter Jamie on F-24, Cosmic Thing, Will's parents Don and Carla on their 20' monohull, Flicka, Bill and Karen Dean, their two children Jackson and Naomi and Bill's Mom on their Searunner 40, Seafire. This gave us a total of fourteen people at yet another great potluck on the beach. Monday morning Larry Falter, on his Cross 45, Frolic, made a pass through the anchorage under magnificent full sail and gave us a wave. Sunday Ben Kuhner sailed his 3 Meter Slime across from Manchester and he and Steve Powell did the annual circumnavigation of Blake Island for the Piglet Trophy. Click on the photo for a larger view.
