2002 Board of Directors Nominations

Submitted by George Lefler  - Dec. 15, 2001

Greetings,

The nominations for the Board of Directors for 2002 are as follows:

  • Commodore: Martyn Adams
  • Vice Commodore: Greg Jacobs
  • Rear Commodore: Harry Abbott
  • Secretary/Treasurer: Linda Adams
  • Membership Secretary: Dave Miller
  • Librarian: Mark Olsoe
  • Property Manager: Diane Johnson
  • Race Fleet Captain: Pat McGarry and John Marken (Co-Captainships)
  • Three Meter Fleet Captain: Ben Kuhner
  • Web Curator: Scott McCulley
  • Newsletter Editor: Marty and Neil Bryant (Co-Editors)

If you'll notice, there's been a bit of a switch-up in offices. The Secretary position has assumed the Treasurer duties, so that the office is now officially 'Secretary/Treasurer'. This eliminates the need for Dave Miller to hold two offices, and he's chosen to continue only with the Membership Secretary position. Also, what with all the recent discussions about club purchases, we realized we need to have someone to track the items that the club does already own, hence the new 'Property Manager' office. Diane offered to fill this slot.

While this is not strictly according to the bylaws, my read is that we don't really know what is stated in the bylaws. At our last board meeting, I had updates to the copy of the 1980 version of the bylaws ready to discuss, when Marty notified me that there have been several changes made to the bylaws since them. Apparently, though, these changes exist only in the Secretary's General and Board meeting minutes since that time, and have never been compiled into a single document. One of the tasks I attempted to do was to create a committee to research and update the bylaws.

Nevertheless, there were enough Board members present to make up a quorum, and enough hands raised to fill the new and available slots. So, although not really 'According to Hoyle', we recognized that it was enough like recent practices to be acceptable.

The election will take place as part of the annual Pot-Luck and holiday party on Dec. 21st at the usual location

Happy Holidays! Hope to see you all at the meeting/party next week.

Geo.
