Northwest Harvest Benefit RaceBy Scott McCulley The ninth annual NWHBR was held on Saturday, September 8th, 2001. A record 29 boats participated, with 3 multihull entries. Thanks to the hard work of the skippers and crew, the event raised over $7,800 and a TON of food for Northwest Harvest. The forecast called for light winds from the Northeast, backing to the North and building 15-20 mph. At the starting line, the wind was light from the Northeast. The multihull class started first, followed by the larger monohulls, so that each class had clear air without the larger and faster boats sailing over the top of slower boats. Ron' F-28 (Trillium) led the parade to the Meadow Point buoy and his crew delivered a perfect spinnaker set (very pretty!). Tigger followed No Overlap around the weather mark. Tim did not have a spinnaker and the Tramp looked to catch him downwind. No such luck. The wind backed to the North, then proceeded to die. The asymmetrical spinnakers could be seen hunting for wind on either side of the rumb line to Blakely Rock without much luck. Afterwards, racers and guests adjourned to the Ballard Elks club where a spaghetti dinner appeased the hunger pangs of the voracious sailors. Cups and prizes were awarded to the top racers and donators in each class. The MAX band rocked the house as 175 people danced the night away. Seattle Singles Yacht Club would like to thank this year’s participants for making this our best fundraising event ever. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for our 10th annual event next year! Multihull Class:
