2004 Race to StraitsBig Thank You and Good Job to Jim Thompson again for getting us invited to the race. He sent a nice note to Sloop Tavern thanking them for inviting us. It is a great example of being proactive with the monohull fleet. I think we left a good impression, I know we got lots of waves and smiles as we passed boats on the way back Sunday. If you have not looked at the results, preliminary ones are up at the Sloop Tavern website. The interesting thing to me is how close Scooter, Cuttlefish, Danger Zone and Freda Mae sailed on elasped time. After 62 miles and 12 hours of racing, the boats elasped within 45 mins of each other. Of course Makika and Optimus are in the higher speed league but that is to be expected. For a downwind race the ratings seem to work with the exception of Jim :). Does he have a silent motor or something that points the way to go? Jim showed us all how important it is to get your head out of the boat and find the wind and stay out of the current. He seemed to always be in the right place, leaving Les and me on Scooter to wonder why we just did not follow him down the course. Lots of fun, still not sure who won or if it really mattered. With the continous reverse start we all finished within sight of each other. Mike F-25A Scooter |
